orn in Des Moines, Iowa in 1949. Steve Thomas graduated from Iowa State University then began his financial service career as an accountant in a firm providing financial services for small business owners in Pueblo, Colorado in 1972. 1974 he entered the life insurance industry as an agent with New York Life. He became the Managing Partner in an independent insurance agency marketing life and employee benefits in 1980. They added fee-based financial planning services in 1984. In 1985 Steve became an associate general agent for Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance Company responsible for recruiting and training of career life agents. He returned to a private practice specializing retirement, estate and long-term care planning for the small business owner market In 2001 and sold his employee benefit practice that same year.

In 2008 Steve authored and received Colorado Division of Insurance approval for a qualified sixteen-hour Long Term Care Partnership CE Training course as well as a Long-Term Care Refresher Training Course. His company Colorado Life, Inc. provides continuing education and training courses for insurance and financial advisors in Colorado.

In 2014 Steve founded PlanAmerica, LLC a company specializing in providing insurance and planning services for Medicare and Social Security qualified beneficiaries and continues to provide Retirement, Estate, and Business Planning services. Additionally, he has pursued education in the use and application of Home Equity Conversion Mortgages from a financial planning standpoint with clients as well as providing Reverse Mortgage background to financial advisors in CE classes.

Financial Service Related Industry Biography

Steve became a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) in 1975. He is a Past President and Past
National Committeeperson of NAIFA Colorado. He has served as an LUTC moderator for courses on Advanced Business and Estate Planning, Introduction to Business Planning and Financial Planning. He is a past National Chairperson for the NAIFA Leadership in Life Institute (LILI) Committee. He has served as a LILI Moderator in Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. From April 2011 until September of 2014 Steve served NAIFA Colorado as its Chief of Operations and Director of Marketing. He retired from this position to devote time to the development of PlanAmerica, LLC.

Steve and his wife Janet married in 1970 and live in Windsor, Colorado. They have two married children and seven grandchildren.
